Broadbent Maths - creative primary maths

I am currently reading 'Make it Stick' which has some interesting strategies

I would like to introduce some of these science of learning ideas into my maths teaching.  Is there scope within the Broadbent Maths scheme to try some if these practices out? If so could you suggest a starting point?
This sounds really interesting and this is exactly how I hoped my Planning Menu would be used - for teachers to be creative, but within a supportive framework.

I know a little of the 'Make it Stick' ideas and I think the focus on techniques to help memory retrieval and retention is something that could have a big impact on children's learning. It is within a growth mindset approach and will fit in within the teaching of a unit well I think. Take a look at the 'How to plan a lesson' part of the Planning Menu:

The part that you could introduce some of these strategies is in the Practice part of a lesson - variation is already emphasised, but I think interleaving and spaced out practice with several topics practiced to add an element of challenge could help with the learning.

The Planning Menu will provide a structure to give you the reassurance that you have good coverage and continuity - and pedagogically a sound approach. I wanted it to be a flexible non-prescriptive system that would support and assure teachers without needing to provide the parts of the planning process that should be left to your own professional judgements - so it is good to hear your ideas.

I would be interested in following your progress on this. As you're not too far away I would like to have a visit, so if it's OK with you I'll try to sort out a time with you to pop in after school one afternoon.

To those reading this, I will keep you up to date with our progress and add materials and ideas to the Planning Menu if there is anything that can be adapted.
