Mental arithmetic practise books just published

Wednesday, 6 January 2016
I have written these mental arithmetic books for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 as part of Keen Kite's Ready, Steady, Practise series and they are now published. They are well designed and include a brief introduction to each topic - useful to support TAs or for children to read themselves.
Teachers often ask for recommendations for resources and these have got all the features that I would look for in a practise book.

1. Reliable and appropriate content for each year  - they are written by me, so I can be confident of this!

2. An introduction to each topic that can support TAs or be read by children themselves. If sent home as homework, then this helps parents too.

3.  A variety of practise exercises that presents the same maths topic in slightly different ways to ensure deeper understanding and maintain interest.

4. Easy to follow instructions
, with a good design layout that means children can understand the task, follow instructions and complete the task with little support if necessary.

5. A final challenge
that children should enjoy - the activities are in a context or require some problem solving and reasoning.

Most importantly the books have been produced at a very reasonable price, which is to the good credit of the publishers, Keen Kite. A pack of 5 books is £15 for schools, so only £3 each.

The DfE Standards and Testing Agency have sample test materials, mark schemes and test instructions online for the 2016 Key Stage 2 Mathematics tests.
