Broadbent Maths Planning Menu - latest updates in 2014/5

Monday, 6 July 2015
There have been many new features in the Planning Menu since last September, including Progress Trackers, Mental Arithmetic Charts and long-term plans for Reception/FS2. Many of the new additions were a result of teachers asking for support with particular areas of teaching, planning and management.

Many of these new components came out of contact with teachers through my Ask Paul page. So if there's anything you'd like some support with, get in touch and we'll see where we can go from there!

I have to thank the teachers that I sent early drafts and samples to for comments, especially Ben Stephenson from Marton Primary in Lincolnshire who gave some great input with developing the Maths Trackers to include average attainment scores.

So here is a list of all the features added since last September; if you are not already using them you might like to take a look:

Maths Progress Trackers  Progress is assessed against success criteria identified within each unit. There is a dropdown menu of  'Started', 'Developing' and 'Mastered' as a format for outcomes based on expectations for each year, so year-based, not level-based. It includes a numerical value to track progress in each year.

School Maths Policies
Included are Calculation Policy guidance notes and suggested content for each year; schools are required to publish an outline scheme of work for maths so there are files for you to place on your own website.

Mental Arithmetic Charts
There is a chart for each year to show a suggested progression in the mental arithmetic skills. They are linked to the maths topics for each unit. This was developed in direct response to a teacher asking for support with planning mental arithmetic.

Reasoning, Problem Solving and Statistics

These record sheets help teachers with planning and assessment.

Reception/FS2 Scope and Sequence
new this month so teachers can begin planning for next year. The unit plans and other components for R/FS2 will be added over the summer ready for September.

Finally the Ask Paul page, started last September, has been very popular and has resulted in a number of the new materials above being added.
All this new content is part of your subscription and has been included at no extra cost. There is more planned for next year including support with problem solving activities for each unit.
