Assessing and tracking progress - an update for Planning Menu users

Sunday, 30 November 2014
The latest version of the Broadbent Maths Tracker is now available for user schools to download and use. It includes assessment criteria to track the progress of your class in number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measurement, time and geometry.
The criteria is based on the expected outcomes for each 2-week unit so that a ‘spiral’ picture builds up of the progress of individuals in your class.

There is a drop-down menu of 'Starting', 'Developing' and 'Mastered' as a format for outcomes based on expectations for each year, so it is year-based, not level-based.

I had a very useful meeting a few weeks ago with Ben Stephenson, head teacher at Marton primary school in Lincolnshire. He was interested in using and developing the Maths Tracker and we spent some time considering the different possible formats that would be the most supportive for teachers to use.

He has devised a model for his English tracker and was able to adapt the Broadbent Maths Tracker so that each year group has all the maths assessment criteria for that specific year across the top of the sheet.

We will put his model on the Planning Menu Assessment page when it is ready and you can give it a try in your school too. I think it could be a very useful format for teachers to use on a regular basis to then feed in to a schools' overall summative tracking document.
