Statistics for KS1 - World Cup winners

Tuesday, 10 June 2014

Finding data in a real life context for EY or KS1 maths can be difficult as the numbers need to be small. The list of teams that have won the World Cup is perfect with numbers between 1 and 5.

Block graph

Draw a block graph to show how many times these teams have won the World Cup.

Ask questions about the graph.

      • How many more times has Italy won the World Cup than Spain?

      • How many teams have won the World Cup just one time?

Pictogram

Draw a pictogram to show how many times these teams have won the World Cup.

(Use a simple icon like a football or a cup/trophy to represent each win).

Ask questions about the graph.

      • Which team has the most number of World Cup wins?

      • Which teams have won the World Cup the same number of times?
