I’ve had many requests for advice about what is expected for Level 6 maths following the blog I wrote last term: Level 6 maths in primary schools – what do you need to teach?
To support children with this I have co-written a KS2 Level 6 book with Gillian Rich, based on her KS3 book and adapted for primary level children to use at home. It has just been published by Letts and is now available.
It follows the format of other books in the Letts Success series: double page topic spreads with teaching and learning support on the left and practice and reinforcement on the right page. If you are interested in a copy you can click on the link here from the publishers.
Although teaching content at higher levels can be appropriate for some children, do remember that breadth and depth can also challenge able children – let them explore and investigate and they may go up to and beyond L6. John Mason has written some brilliant stuff on this (changed my way of teaching back in the 80s!) – Thinking Mathematically is my favourite.
